About Us
The Angling Council of Ireland (ACI) is the Sport Ireland approved and funded National Governing Body for angling sport and recreation in Ireland. The ACI is a Sport Ireland Coaching approved NGB for the delivery of angling coaching in Ireland. The ACI membership is made up of national federations and organisations from the different branches of angling namely, Sea Angling (Boat and Shore), Predator (Pike & Perch), Salmon and Trout, and Coarse Angling.
The ACI Executive Committee is comprised of elected member delegates from each of the National Angling Representative Organisations affiliated with the ACI. All Executive Officers are elected from the committee at the Annual General Meeting in accordance with our constitution.
The ACI is affiliated to the Federation of Irish Sport, and North Atlantic Salmon Conservation Organisation, and are active members of the National Inland Fisheries Forum (NIFF) and the Angling Consultative Council of Ireland (ACCI) under the Department of Environment Climate and Communications (DECC). DECC provides €50,000 PA for the Angling Consultative Council of Ireland.
The ACI is funded through member contributions and through Sport Ireland core grant funding in addition, from time to time ACI receives additional funding from Dormant Account funds through Sport Ireland and specific Sports Capital and Equipment Grants through the Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media, and the National Lottery. Inland Fisheries Ireland provides grant funding annually to federations and at club level for competitions and events. City and County Councils also provide grant schemes for federations and clubs. The ACI has adopted the Governance Code for Sport. All grant funding received is accounted for fully in our externally audited Annual Financial Statements. ACI federation clubs were subject to Sport Ireland Ethics audit in terms of child safeguarding and Garda vetting and met the requirements of a funded National Governing Body. The ACI also meets the Sport Ireland requirement for Anti-doping and promotes good practice throughout its member federations and organisations. The ACI provides Safeguarding training and Garda vetting for its members.
